Data Retention & Deletion Policy
Effective Date: [Month Day, 2026] · Last Updated: [Month Day, 2026] — DRAFT, requires legal review.
Plain-language summary: RiskReady Home keeps your data while your account is active and for the time we need for legal, security, or audit purposes. You can delete your account; deletion runs through a 30-day grace period during which you can cancel.
Retention categories
- Account data — retained while your account is active and as needed to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations after closure.
- Property and equipment data — retained while your account is active unless you delete the record.
- Scan photos and documents — retained while linked to a saved item or document, unless you delete the item or document.
- Reports and export logs — retained for support and audit for a defined period after generation, then aged out.
- Security and audit logs — retained for operational, legal, fraud, and security purposes. These may be kept longer than user-facing data.
Account deletion
You can delete your account from /account/data-delete. Deletion runs on a 30-day grace period:
- You are locked out of login from the moment you confirm deletion.
- For 30 days, you can cancel the deletion and restore access.
- After 30 days, your account record and associated data are removed, subject to backups, legal holds, audit logs, and security exceptions described below.
Backups
Deleted data may remain in encrypted backups for a limited period until backup rotation completes. We do not actively restore deleted data from backups for any other purpose.
Legal holds and exceptions
We may retain specific records longer when required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud, address security incidents, or enforce our agreements. Aggregated, de-identified data may also be retained as it cannot reasonably identify an individual or household.
